Candidate for Fort Bend County Sheriff 2020

PLATFORM FOR CHANGE

”SMART POLICING”

  • Utilizing more Grant Funding for communication equipment and technology to overcome language barriers between law enforcement, community, and victims
  • Aggressively address the need for an effective means for FBCO Sheriff’s Office to address mental health calls for service and mental health commitments 
  • Outreach and Collaboration with residents and community leaders
  • Performance Measurement and Research on the betterment of Fort Bend County Correctional Facility
  • Continued improvement in collaboration with other agencies
  • Mental Health Awareness in the organization and  the positive effects to the community
  •  Building a robust Police Athletic League focused on communication and relations with the youth of Fort Bend County.

CANDIDATE BACKGROUND

Lieutenant Geneane Hughes is a resident of Fort Bend County and serves as the matriarch of a beautiful family of four children and two grandchildren. Geneane began her career in public service immediately after high school graduation, by joining the United States Army and earned an Honorable Discharge.  Geneane continued her affinity for public service in her hometown of Philadelphia, where she joined the Philadelphia Police Department. Geneane's exposure to areas suffering high incidences of crime and poor community relations pushed her to promote within the Philadelphia Police Department. Geneane desired to become an active and effective voice of leadership that assisted in improving community relations.  During Geneane’s 11 years of service with the Philadelphia Police Department, she was promoted to Sergeant. 

Geneane crossed an opportunity to compete for a Commander position, and was selected to serve as a Commander of Criminal Investigations for the Missouri City (TX) Police Department. During her 10 years of service to the citizens of Missouri City, she gained invaluable experience leading Police Administration, Internal Affairs, Victims Assistance, the Community Liaison Program, and the Field Training Program.  In addition to her expertise in law enforcement, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, a Master's in Science of Public Administration/Emergency Management and is currently a Doctoral Student in Public Administration and Organizational Leadership. As a lifelong learner, Hughes enhanced her professionalism as a law enforcement leader by completing the prestigious Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy, the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, the Law Enforcement Management Institute, and the Women in Executive Law Enforcement Institute. 

 These qualities buttress her knowledge of budgeting, strategic planning, financial analysis and auditing. She has been lauded as a role model for new police officers, training them in the tenets of 21st Century Policing, emotional intelligence, and procedural justice.

Additionally, Geneane facilitated cross-functional teamwork by leading groups of officers from various jurisdictions working to collaboratively combat crime in the Missouri City, Sugar Land, Stafford areas. She is known as a relationship builder, and influencer, who fosters collaboration and cooperation effortlessly. Lieutenant Hughes’ dedication to her craft, unique personal qualities, education, experience, and love for Fort Bend County sets her apart from other candidates vying for Sheriff in the upcoming March 3, 2020 election. Geneane plans on being a lead agent in providing inclusiveness to Fort Bend County residents and visitors. Geneane, also plans on standing on seven platforms of “Smart Policing”. 

Geneane is currently a Patrol Lieutenant at Fort Bend County Precinct 2, and professionally affiliated with, Law Enforcement for Female Executives, National Association of Women in Law Enforcement, NAACP-Wharton Branch.
